v2-v0.34.02026-08-15

Skriuw v2-v0.34.0

v2-v0.32.12026-08-12

Skriuw v2-v0.32.1

Critical upgrade fix. If you are on v0.30.0–v0.32.0, update to this release.

  • Fixed: workspaces refused to open after upgrading to v0.32.0 ("migration 13 checksum drift"). A repository restructure edited a comment inside an already-shipped database migration, which the migration ledger's checksum verification correctly rejected. The shipped migration bytes are restored; no data was ever at risk — the database refused to open rather than run drifted SQL.
  • Shipped migrations are now pinned by checksum in the test suite so an accidental edit fails CI instead of reaching a release.

Includes everything in v0.32.0: version diff view, remote cover image downloads, animated app icons, and the repository restructure.

v2-v0.32.02026-08-12

Skriuw v2-v0.32.0

Highlights

  • Version diff view — the revision history panel can now show a side-by-side diff between versions, and the note outline scrolls the current heading into view.
  • Remote cover images — pasting a remote image URL as a note cover now downloads it through the desktop shell and stores it with your workspace media.
  • Animated app icons — sidebar and rail icons animate on hover, with a setting to turn the animation off.
  • First-run polish — a quieter, more focused onboarding screen for fresh workspaces.

Under the hood

  • The repository was restructured: the desktop app now lives at the root, organized by product feature, and the legacy v1 product line is frozen under v1/. No behavior change is intended from the restructure.
  • The browser build compiles again on Vercel's toolchain (musl feature-macro fix for the SQLite WASM shim).
  • Reference tags use their own theme token instead of borrowing the primary color.

Skriuw v2-v0.31.0

Skriuw v2 0.31.0

A workspace that starts with something in it

A new workspace now opens with five starter notes across nested folders instead of an empty shell. They are ordinary notes: edit them, move them, or delete them. Deleting is permanent — the preview is planted once per workspace and never comes back.

Signing in adopts the notes you actually touched and quietly drops the ones you did not, so a second device cannot duplicate the preview into an account that already holds your work.

Faster, quieter cold start

The window now stays hidden until the first frame is painted, and the first frame already carries your theme, so launching no longer flashes an unstyled empty shell.

Fixes

  • Resetting preferences no longer replays onboarding.

Skriuw v2-v0.30.0

A smoother first run

Fresh workspaces now open with a calm, keyboard-accessible choice: continue entirely locally with no account, or sign in and enable multi-device sync. Local mode is recommended, existing workspaces are never interrupted, and sync remains available later from Account & sync.

Hosted app and account sync

  • Skriuw now runs in the browser at skriuw.com/app using the same Rust core with worker-owned SQLite-WASM persisted in OPFS.
  • Account sign-in and opt-in sync are available on desktop and web. Desktop credentials live in the operating-system vault; browser sessions survive reloads when storage is available.
  • Local-only remains the default. Typing, navigation, search, startup, and recovery do not wait on the network.

Stored media and workspace polish

  • MP4 and WebM files are now first-class, content-addressed workspace media with local playback, usage accounting, export support, and cleanup through the media gallery.
  • The navigation rail gains a compact account menu, recent notes, theme controls, shortcut help, and direct access to Account & sync.
  • Settings, shortcut recording, command surfaces, dialogs, media previews, and history navigation received a broad polish pass.

Cloud content is encrypted in transit but is not end-to-end encrypted yet. Stay local-only if that boundary matters for your workspace.

v2-v0.29.02026-08-07

Skriuw v2-v0.29.0

Optional cloud sync

Skriuw can now replicate your workspace through a private cloud log — strictly opt-in, off by default, and never in the way: local startup, typing, navigation, and search stay network-free whether or not you connect.

  • Connect per device from Account settings; disconnecting or logging out stops replication without touching your local copy.
  • Convergence with no silent overwrites — concurrent edits to the same note preserve both complete versions and surface an explicit conflict you resolve with one click (keep yours, keep theirs). Deletes are tombstoned so nothing resurrects.
  • Large notes and images travel as verified content-addressed chunks; a new device hydrates from a checkpoint instead of replaying unbounded history.
  • Recovery-first — blocked operations stay visible in settings with retry controls; interrupted syncs resume where they left off.

Note templates

mod+alt+n (also in the palette and sidebar menus) opens a keyboard-first picker with eight scaffolds — daily note, meeting notes, project, to-do list, weekly review, idea, and reading notes. Templates with a matching built-in property set apply those fields in the same operation, so one Enter yields a dated, structured note.

Under the hood

  • Browser runtime foundation: worker-owned SQLite WASM over OPFS with native parity and restart-durability gates.
  • Sync log compaction, per-device acknowledgement cursors, and bounded diagnostics.
  • Two-device conflict scenarios covered end-to-end in the test suite.
v2-v0.28.02026-08-02

Skriuw v2-v0.28.0

What's new in 0.28.0

Undo for deletes

  • Deleting a note or folder from the sidebar now shows an undo toast; press mod+Z or click Undo to restore it immediately.
  • New "Show toasts" setting to control confirmation toasts.

Shortcuts

  • Editor-bound shortcuts moved to a single registry with explicit route scopes, so custom bindings apply consistently inside the editor (rich and raw markdown modes) and never fire on the wrong screen.
  • Editor search shortcuts and focus handling improved; the shortcut cheat sheet reflects the new scopes.

Coverage for the shortcut system grew with dedicated route-scope and editor-binding test suites (804 renderer tests green).

v2-v0.27.12026-07-30

Skriuw v2-v0.27.1

Patch release:

  • Fixed physical-key matching for navigation shortcuts across shifted punctuation and non-US number-row layouts.
  • Mod+W now closes an existing split before closing the active tab.
v2-v0.27.02026-07-29

Skriuw v2 0.27.0

What's changed

  • Add configurable note cover images: upload or reuse workspace media, drag to position, zoom, keyboard controls, nine focal presets, and full-width layout.
  • Add workspace media gallery with inline, cover, and journal references; metadata; filters; cleanup; and full-screen preview.
  • Add searchable, sortable cover media picker with current, used, and reused indicators.
  • Preserve cover state through SQLite, archives, recovery backups, and content-addressed media storage.

v2-v0.26.02026-07-28

Skriuw v2 0.26.0

Skriuw v2 0.26.0

Identical in content to v0.5.0 — this release renumbers v2 to continue the original desktop version line (which ended at 0.25.0). With the old numbering, package managers that compare versions (apt, dnf, winget) kept resolving the legacy 0.25.0 build as "newest". From this release on, apt, dnf, AUR, Homebrew, Scoop, and winget all track v2.

Included (since the last v1 desktop release)

  • Daily journal: date-keyed entries, mood selector, sidebar month calendars, keyboard-first navigation
  • Editor: full formatting suite, headings 1–6, toggle headings, emoji picker (:), media embeds, drag handles, note outline
  • Import: Notion, Obsidian, Evernote (.enex), Joplin, Google Keep, Standard Notes, and more — 11 sources total
  • Keyboard shortcuts throughout, with a cheat sheet on mod+/

Updating from 0.5.0 or 0.4.x is in-place; no vault migration.
